The VW Fun Cup has had to try its patience for a long time. After a season tormented by the Covid-19 crisis with not much racing, everybody could recharge his batteries completely. Let the battle begin!
The drivers of the #477 DRM want to repeat what they have shown in 2020. After all, they have won each of the three organized races in Zolder, Zandvoort and Anneau du Rhin. Cédric Bollen and Gilles Debrus will however need to find a solution for the departure of Sébastien Kluyskens, who was promoted as a Top Gun driver because of his strong performances. Will the opposition seize the opportunity?
But DRM Motorsport won’t of course have the place to themselves. Milo Racing, PVT Motorsport, Comtoyou Racing, AC Motorsport, Clubsport Racing, Acome Racing and many others are ready to pick up the fight. Those teams are not only fighting for the overall classification: the Fun category is reserved for line-ups without Top Gun driver (the best drivers in the series) and the Pure division was created for drivers with mainly the VW Fun Cup as experience.
Carpass LRE by DRM will defend its fourth Two-seater title this season and will not only have to perform on track. The goal is also to have as many passengers as possible on board during the races.
The Hankook 25 Hours VW Fun Cup: 130 cars on the starting grid
The longest race in the world makes its comeback in 2021!
The Hankook 25 Hours VW Fun Cup have become a key event amongst endurance races and is undoubtedly the highlight of the championship. There is always an exciting competition at Francorchamps between drivers and almost twenty different teams dreaming of adding their names to the winners' list.
And the fun is not limited to the race track only!
The 25 Hours is a family-friendly event that offers a laid-back and enjoyable experience for everyone. In addition, 15.000 spectators gather annually on site to attend the world's longest and most enjoyable race, while at least 175.000 people watch the race live on our Live TV!
Because of the coronavirus outbreak, the 2020 edition has been cancelled, but it will of course make its big comeback in 2021!
The race tracks
A new start for the VW Fun Cup
By announcing its 2021 calendar only a few days after being forced to cancel the race at Spa-Francorchamps, the team of Kronos Events has proven that it doesn’t lack in motivation or new ideas. Clearly, the racing schedule has never looked so amazingly spectacular!
There is a tendency for the VW Fun Cup powered by Hankook to start and finish the season in Belgium. During the Test & Discovery Day at Mettet, two 2-hour races are planned, but this meeting will also provide an opportunity for new and potential drivers to get a first taste of the Beetle race car. The champions will be crowned on Sunday 10 October at Circuit Zolder.
Meanwhile, the championship will visit foreign race tracks on three occasions. First up, after a general request from the teams, will be the challenging track of Lédenon in Southern France. The 3,156-kilometer counterclockwise track, only an hour away from the Mediterranean Sea, will provide the necessary challenges because of its height differences. France will be our destination for a second time in September, with the popular Trophée Nostalgie at Anneau du Rhin. Thousands of spectators will witness a race partly contested in the dark on Saturday night.
The F1 track of Zandvoort got a much-appreciated facelift at the beginning of 2020 and will be one of the highlights of the VW Fun Cup campaign. But the absolute pinnacle of the season will once again be the Hankook 25 Hours VW Fun Cup at the Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. After a necessary break, this family event is back on the calendar, with more than one hundred racing beetles at the track and activities for all ages in the paddock. Furthermore, teams and drivers will get a dress rehearsal in the beginning of May.
Covid-19 or not, the VW Fun Cup powered by Hankook is and remains the place to be for every motorsport enthusiast. You know what? Let’s meet at one of our six iconic circuits!
